2010 Aprilia RSV4 R to debut at Imola World Superbike round.

The Aprilia USA site declares that the 2010 RSV4 R will be unveiled September 25 at 12:45 p.m. in Italy at the Imola Circuit, the site of this weekend’s World Superbike round. This comes on the heels of a two-day test at Mugello of the motorcyle that it is based upon, the RSV4 race bike, and the announcement that Marco Simoncelli will compete for the Aprilia factory team at Imola, making it a huge weekend for the Italian motorcycle manufacturer.

While little info has been revealed as the official announcement remains days away, what we do know is that the RSV4 R will be powered by the same liquid-cooled, 1000cc V4 engine with a claimed output of 180 hp that can be currently found in the 2009 RSV4. The 2010 R version will have twin injectors and a ride-by-wire electronic management system. The ‘racing-derived’ frame comes from the one developed in the RSV4 Factory bike.

One of the most notable changes to the Aprilia superbike is the switch from Ohlins suspension to an upside-down Showa fork and a Sachs rear shock. Don’t expect the R version to have the spendy CF fairing of the race bike either as Aprilia looks to trim costs in order to price it competitively with its Japanese counterparts.
