Dealers

McIver and Veitch Ltd.

By  Last updated: 20th June 2010

Back in 1932 Bill Veitch (Snr) and business partner Jack McIver formed the Dunedin motorcycle company McIver & Veitch. Over the years the motorcycle franchises included BSA, Matchless, James, Puch, Norton, Triumph, Suzuki & Kawasaki.

McIver & Veitch was appointed the Honda franchise for Dunedin in 1959 and continued as the sole Honda dealer right through to 2004, making McIver & Veitch one of the oldest family owned Honda dealerships in the world.

Over 70 years later McIver & Veitch is New Zealand’s longest standing Motorcycle dealership with the Veitch family well and truly at the helm.

Three generations later the Veitch family are dedicated to the motorcycle industry. Son of the founder Bill Veitch (Jnr) still has an active roll in the dealership with his son’s and third generation Veitch’s – Dean and Jason running the company.

In 1996 the Veitch family were appointed the Harley-Davidson franchise, this is housed in the successful dealership Motosport Dunedin next to McIver & Veitch. Motosport is also the South Island’s sole Buell dealer and the ‘Worlds Most Southern Harley-Davidson Dealer’

In 2004 the Veitch Family decided to represent New Zealand’s leading motorcycle brand, Suzuki, to deliver a broader model range of motorcycles. Unfortunately, due to the Honda distributor maintaining a strong mono-franchise policy, McIver and Veitch would no longer represent the Honda brand.

That year McIver and Veitch’s neighbouring Harley Davidson dealership, Motosport Dunedin were also appointed the KTM franchise for the Dunedin / Otago area
